Choose the Right Air Cap & Needle Nozzle |
Finding the right air cap can be confusing especially with names like Aqua, Clear, Titania and HVLP Caps. We will cover what each of these names mean along with their appropriate nozzle sizes. Below is a quick reference chart for easy navigation of our spray guns, their cap and needle nozzle size.

Sagola Air Cap Types Each spray gun brand will have their own set of names that will indicate how the gun sprays (look closely at the holes in each cap above). Each of these cap groups is specialized for your general needs in paint spraying. These caps and needle nozzle sizes are all interchangeable. One gun will be able to operate with all of these specifications.Clear Air Caps Our selection of clear caps allows for users to apply clear coats and HS single stage paints at high speeds.
- Versions: 1.2 - 1.25 - 1.3 - 1.35 - 1.4
- Air consumption: 315 L/min
- Average paint output flow: 224 g/min
- Fan Size: 285 - 300mm
- Recommended pressure: 29 - 32 PSI

- Application: Water and solvent-based
basecoats, Clearcoats, high speed
Needle Nozzle Sizes The one thing spray gun brands do have in common is needle nozzle sizing. Almost all brands will use a measurement in millimeters ranging between 1.00 and 1.50. These sizes can vary in increments of 0.05 and determine how much paint is released from the gun. Sagola indicates .05 jumps as XL. Within our documents you can see models claiming 1.20XL which indicates it is a 1.25mm needle nozzle size. When painting, the needle nozzle is what regulates the amount of volume being extruded from gun. This means lower viscosity paints (thinner) the smaller the needle nozzle size and the higher viscosity paints the larger you want the nozzle size. The above chart is our recommendation on what works best but each application is unique and can come down to purely user preference.
