Why choose the Elcometer 480 gloss meter?
If your quality standard references gloss measurement for coatings, plastics, ceramics or metals, the Elcometer 480 gives you
fast readings, clear pass/fail control, and simple reporting. Teams use it for paint gloss checks on production lines,
powder coating audits, automotive refinish inspection, and appearance control.
Common use cases
Production QC: verify every batch meets the target GU/%/HU limits before shipment.
Incoming inspection: compare supplier finish against your reference standard.
Field service: diagnose gloss or haze complaints on installed parts.
R&D / process tuning: optimize curing, resin ratios, and surface prep for consistent appearance.
Workflow: measure → review → report
Measure at the correct angle (20° high-gloss, 60° general, 85° matte).
Check on-screen statistics and Pass/Fail (Model T) against your limits.
Export batches via USB/Bluetooth® to ElcoMaster® and share a gloss report.
FAQs
Do I need Haze (HU)?
Use Haze when customers notice “halo” or bloom on high-gloss finishes. Choose Dual (20/60°) or Triple (20/60/85°). 60° only glossmeters do not measure Haze.
Which angle should I use?
20° for high-gloss (>70 GU), 60° for general/semi-gloss (10–70 GU), 85° for matte (<10 GU). Triple-angle covers all three.
Can I create gloss reports?
Yes. Export readings from the gauge to ElcoMaster® on PC, iPhone® or Android™ and generate shareable reports.
